60% – 90% of adults experience back pain at some point in their lives, irregardless of their gender and it is rated second to respiratory illness as a reason for symptom-related visits to family doctors. To solve common and simple lower back pain, exercising, stretching and deep tissue massage is often successful.
As a deep tissue massage therapist, I am trained on muscle anatomy and understanding its function and movements. Unlike most traditional massage, deep tissue is a targeted massage that seeks out trigger points and knots deep within muscles. When clients come to me for lower back treatment, the most common trigger point areas are usually at the following areas:
– Multifidus
– Erector Spinae
– Quadratus Lumborum
– Piriformis & Glutes
– Hamstring
By applying trigger point compression and deep strokes at these deep muscles often provide relief. You can also use the lacrosse massage ball or a tennis ball to target these spots by gradually applying pressure on it. However, if you feel any sharp pain, numbness or tingling sensation, STOP and seek a qualified deep tissue massage therapist or doctor for help.
